• Diamond Earrings - Fireworks Display

  Every time my Mother goes shopping for diamond earrings, I know that there will be a new fireworks display at their next dinner party.  My mother loved to dress up and look real pretty by putting diamonds in her ears and wearing some on her hands and wrist occasionally.  The sparkling brilliance that came from those gems seemed to make the fireworks celebrations shown on the 4^th of July a rather dull event.

  Dad loved the admiring glances that Mother would get from the crowds.  He felt that the diamond earrings were a good investment and made it seem like he made wise decisions at work that could afford such nice accessories.  Mother knew where to buy wholesale diamonds at a great price.  This knowledge made all the fine purchases that she made each month possible on the meager household allowance she got each month.

  It seems that my Mom had a better business sense than Dad did at times, and she frugally saved money on everything she bought.  Mother got to buy her diamond earrings because she used coupons to buy everything.  Right down to the fireworks that we bought for holidays and those parties held at the house.  Yes, every time my mother came into the room, there was a certain hush among the guests.  They could not wait to see which diamonds were in place on her arms, legs and especially around her neck.

  The clustered rings on two fingers shone like sparklers all the time.  The solitaire diamond ring on her left hand seemed to glow like a roman rocket.  The diamond earrings Mother wore only on special occasions, were a fireworks display all on their own because Mother said the carat count was 7.5.  My father never questioned Mother about the cost of such things, because he knew how hard she saved to buy everything they used.  He also knew that if he pressured her too greatly, that there was certain to be a major fireworks display followed by heated discussion when they were in their bedroom that evening.
  

  My mother continues to buy diamond earrings and other accessories after the first of every month.  She enjoys the challenge of seeing what kind of fireworks display she can create at the next dinner party.  Only her best friends know who her wholesale diamond connection is, and they have begun buying diamonds to use for their own fireworks displays at home.
